Martin is a true star among young Slovene designers, a very prominent name in the local scene who has already found international platforms to work on. The jury were impressed by his combination of highly creative ideas, backed by tangible entrepreneurial success. He skilfully balances commercial graphic design work, which makes his company's ingenious and original not-for-profit projects possible, and the judges commend his desire to share this model with other young designers in Slovenia.

My Work
"Codeep is a collective that deals with multimedia and graphic design projects, as well as with organizing club events, design and art exhibitions. The working environment we have created does not only focus on for-profit projects, since we combine our commercial work with our art and non-profit projects. Design for commercial clients helps us produce better non-commercial projects; while non-profit projects help us establish business opportunities, develop a better image, and expand our network of partners.

I am Codeep's Creative and Art Director, working in both the art and business worlds."

Issues in the design sector in my country
"In general, design in Slovenia is marked by a relatively small market. The number of companies that aim for design added value is growing slowly, but remains limited. Design is still not commonly perceived as a key component in product development and market positioning. However, this does not mean that design in Slovenia lacks a rich history or creative potential. There is indeed a lot to show, both in terms of industrial and graphic design, even though designers in Slovenia are commonly working with small budgets and usually for a limited domestic market."

Innovative design trends from Slovenia
"Initially an art project for crowded public spaces, RoboVox is a 7,5 m high android-like construction that could also work well as a marketing tool. It is designed to receive SMS messages sent by anyone in the GSM network that are then said out loud. Thus anyone can borrow RoboVox's voice to transmit their own personal message. Making RoboVox part of a campaign could be suitable for any company working in the field of (digital) communication. Because of its size, it cannot be ignored. Furthermore, interaction through SMS is simple and playful, and RoboVox's design is friendly but not goofy. A simple modification of its interface can adapt RoboVox to the needs of the company using its services."
